Suzlon to set up 218MW wind power project in Brazil
Suzlon Energy, through its overseas arm Suzlon Energia Eolica do Brasil, has secured an order from Martifer Renovaveis, an industrial group, to set up, operate and maintain a 218MW wind power project across the Brazilian states of Ceara and Rio Grande do Norte.
The company will deliver 104 units of its S88-2.1MW wind turbine for the project, which is scheduled to be commissioned in phases by June 2012.
The project is expected to generate enough electricity to power over 160,000 Brazilian households and will offset over 425 tones of CO2 annually.
Suzlon Group founder, chairman and managing director Tulsi Tanti said that Brazil has very ambitious targets of reducing carbon emissions by nearly 40% by 2020, and wind energy is clearly going to contribute significantly in achieving the same.
