International Power nears construction of 99MW wind farm in Canada

EBR Staff Writer Published 12 August 2011

International Power Canada said it is preparing for construction of the 99MW Cape Scott wind farm located 25 miles west of Port Hardy on the northeast coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.

The company plans to begin civil construction work in October upon final environmental permitting, and site assessment at Cape Scott is now under way.

The power project, which is expected to cost more than $300m, will include 55 units of Vestas V100 1.8MW turbine.

The facility will occupy a total footprint of 350 hectares of island bog landscape outside of Cape Scott National Park.

Electricity generated by the wind farm will be sold to BC Hydro under a 20-year agreement, and the project is expected to begin commercial operation in 2013.
