Iberdrola, Areva to jointly bid in French offshore wind power tender

EBR Staff Writer Published 01 July 2011

Spanish renewable energy firm Iberdrola Renovables and France-based Areva have signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly bid on two zones for offshore wind power development off the French coast.

The companies will bid for two of the five areas to be offered by the French government in a first phase of bids proposed in the country.

The two zones will have a combined power generating capacity of between 1.000MW and 1.500MW.

If the companies are awarded these projects, Areva will supply turbines for the power projects, while Iberdrola will be responsible for the start-up and operation of the facilities.

The French government is targeting 6,000MW of offshore wind energy generating capacity by 2020.
